Letter: Dial-A-Ride is great option for wheelchair users

Some thoughts on Sharon Libby’s Feb. 7 letter about limited wheelchair transportation options in the Tri-Cities.

For several years, I have been a regular user of Dial-A-Ride. I frequently see electric wheelchairs being brought onto the vehicles. Users of Dial-A-Ride must make a reservation from one to seven days in advance, and be ready to ride when the vehicle arrives. We go through life knowing what we will be doing the next few days — school, work, church, social functions. It isn’t hard to go from knowing what you will be doing to making reservations for the activities.

A big advantage of using public transportation is not having to deal with vehicle maintenance.

A Dial-A-Ride pass costs $25 a month and is for unlimited rides within the parameters of the Ben Franklin Transit system. Dial-A-Ride drivers are professional and I have never been afraid while riding. The wheelchairs and walkers are carefully secured to the vehicle.
