Letter: League of Women Voters encourages all citizens to participate in democratic process

The League of Women Voters of Washington encourages all citizens to participate in the democratic process. The major political parties will soon be holding caucuses to choose our state delegates to the Republican and Democratic conventions, where the nominees for president will be chosen.

Republicans will caucus Feb. 20. For details on how and where to participate, go to www.wsrp.org/caucus.

Democrats will caucus March 26. For details, go to www.demcaucus.com/register.

Washington will hold a presidential primary election May 24. If you can’t make either of the caucuses, the primary gives you the opportunity to express who you would like to be your party’s presidential nominee. You must be registered to vote by April 25 to participate in both the caucuses and this primary. You may register online at www.sos.wa.gov/elections/myvote/olvr.html.

For an easy explanation about how the caucuses work, go to www.lwv-kitsap.org/2016-Elections.html.

Democracy, as some say, is not a spectator sport. Our community, state and country are all stronger when more people participate. The League of Women Voters will be very active this year, providing voter registration opportunities and candidate forums across our region.
