Letter: Rainbow flags on ferries not appropriate

To me the Feb. 1 TCH letter to the editor written by Ken Staley has a problem of being sort of backward. I feel as though most people would agree that what one does in their personal life should not be determined by the outside world.

If that is the reasoning used by the LGBT community, then why do they insist on parading their “feelings” on buildings, boat decks and monuments with rainbow flags and lights? I am sure that many people don’t agree with my “feelings” about lots of things, but then I don’t toss them in public and demand that agreement is the only answer.

As young children we are taught that there are some things that you don’t do in public and we are trained to keep them private, like wearing appropriate clothes and using the toilets. How is the flag problem any different? Seeing the LGBT community use an old symbol like the rainbow to further their cause is not appropriate and it offends me.
