Letter: Who do you want to decide whether we go to war?

Would you really want Donald Trump to make decisions about whether or not we go to war? When he makes a bad business decision, he declares bankruptcy, walks away and lets his investors bear the pain; the consequences of a president’s bad economic or military decisions are not that simple.

Hillary Clinton might personally be a bit more hawkish than I like, but first, she will be counseled by advisers far less anxious to jump into war than the advisers who would influence any Republican president, and second, she understands the power and tactics of political negotiations, as well as the details of strengths and weaknesses of any of our foreign allies and adversaries. I would certainly prefer to have her, rather than an egotistical schoolyard bully like Trump or some of those other Republican candidates, dealing with Congress or foreign powers.

When anyone declares that they vote for the person, not the party, they think they’re being sophisticated, but they’ve actually missed the point entirely. George Bush was a nice enough guy, but he brought along Dick Cheney and those other clowns, as well as fundamental party principles and beliefs that gave us an unnecessary war and a horrendous recession. Don’t forget that.
