Letter: Mistake to give everyone a free education through college
Reading the article about Mr. Mendoza (TCH, Jan. 19), one has a hard time not feeling a great deal of respect and admiration for him. He shows all the attributes of the successful person.
Hard work, diligence and a desire to succeed. He did it without welfare, without expecting someone to step in and make it easier or do it for him.
I know it is expensive to get an education, but that education is a leg up in the job market. I think it is a mistake to give everyone a free education through college. This will give us a group of professional students who would rather go to school than get a job. We must make it so they earn and pay for part of that or they will not appreciate what they have.
Better job, better pay, should cost something.
