Letter: Free college proposal a ploy to generate votes
How can responsible representatives suggest giving free college, when they cannot even secure the proper funds for our elementary, middle and high school systems for the past decade?
How can our representatives suggest new spending items, when they cannot even satisfy court-declared education funding for our children?
Our good-hearted representatives are just trying to get more votes by giving away unearned benefits like college education, since they desire these free tuition students to vote for them based on their generosity of our money.
Why don’t our representatives tackle the tough questions that have been in front of them for years, instead of creating new fantasy issues during an election year, so as to generate votes for them?
I believe in higher education and assisting all who are qualified, but I do not believe in giving away education opportunities just to satisfy the need to get elected. This attitude goes all way to the top here in our state. Will we pay the free college with carbon credits or pot funds, collected on the backs of our children?
Instead of suggesting the easy way of free, try to come up with a way to assist our youth and young adults with education that is done in the spirit of truly helping our community.
