Letter: Teachers should keep political and social views out of the classroom

In light of the latest round of school bond levies, I thought it appropriate to remind the educators who their employer is: Us, the taxpayers. And to that end, I believe that their job is to inspire and encourage free thinking and new ideas, as well as solidifying the 3 Rs.

Instead, most of them believe their job is to stifle and discourage as they ram their personal agendas down the throats of our youth, and throw “tenor” in the faces of students by handing out poor grades or public condemnation to those who question or don’t agree.

Our children are in high school now, and although what I have described above is better, it’s still not great and they still have college to tackle! Over the years, we have been faced with teachers who openly espouse their political and social views, leading the easily convinced child to believe that their point of view is “the” point of view. Have your opinions, but please share the rest of the story, or shut up.

If you feel you can no longer inspire and truly educate — including all points of view — quit! Being an educator is not the pathway to furthering your personal agenda.
