Letter: Outlaw assault rocks or ban rocks altogether
On the second page of the Jan. 18 Tri-City Herald, I was greeted by a headline proclaiming another act of violence involving a rock in the vicinity of Fiesta Foods in Pasco.
Last February, a rock in the hands of Antonio Zambrano-Montes led to his death at the hands of the Pasco police in the same vicinity. Apparently, rocks are too easily obtained in the vicinity of Fiesta Foods, leading to acts of violence.
Clearly it is time for our government to pass legislation making it more difficult for people to obtain these assault rocks. Perhaps we would all be safer if our elected officials would finally stand up to the rock lobby and ban rocks all together. I’m sure that Fiesta Foods management would welcome a more peaceful atmosphere in the vicinity of their fine establishment.
In conclusion, since the common denominator in these two incidents is rocks, the responsibility for the violence must lie with the rocks and it couldn’t possibly be the nature of the people involved. Could it?
