Letter: Comments and concerns about Tri-City school levies
Enough already. Here we go again, On Feb. 9 you will be asked to reinstate the operation levy which expires. I have a couple of comments and concerns.
1. Why does every new school that has recently been built or is under construction in the Tri-Cities come with infrastructure prepared for portable classrooms? You asked for nearly $100 million and don’t have enough foresight to build them big enough for a few years of expansion within the building we just paid for?
2. Legislature, fund schools so levies are not needed!
3. Institute school user fee. I put two kids through school and paid faithfully for 20 years by paying my taxes. I haven’t had kids in school for 10-plus years now, and I still pay. That’s taxation without representation. When your kids are no longer in school you shouldn’t have to continue to pay just because you’re a homeowner. Make all those who don’t own a home and either rent homes or apartments and have kids in school pay a user fee.
4. Make some salary adjustments. Why should the guy who mows the lawn make more then the teacher who works tirelessly to teach?
