Letter: Kennewick school levy is worthy of your ‘yes’ vote

The Kennewick School District is running an election for a maintenance and operations levy, and it is worthy of your “yes” vote.

Unfortunately the state legislature in Olympia cannot or will not solve the education funding problem and so the burden comes down to local districts relying on these levies to fund what has become basic education.

This is not a new levy, it will replace the current levy at the same rate — your taxes will not go up. Passing this levy also means receiving matching funds from the state.

Several years ago North Franklin School District experienced a double levy failure and it was devastating for parents, students and teachers alike. We can’t allow that to happen in Kennewick.

It costs the district money to run these elections, so please help pass it the first time by voting “yes” when your ballot arrives. Kennewick has a terrific track record of responsible financial management and this levy deserves your support.
