Letter: All employees at Kadlec should matter

Though I agree that the role of the registered nurse is a vital role in our facility, I cannot help feeling that the other 75 percent of the Kadlec staff is being dismissed.

Yes, the nursing staff lost the extended illness bank. News flash, so did every other employee at Kadlec. We now have short-term disability in its place. Yes, depending on how long you have worked for Kadlec, you have less vacation days as a nurse. Again, so did every other employee including myself.

The changes due to this conversion to Providence has affected every person working for Kadlec. So where is my representation? No one seems to be holding up banners for the nursing assistants, the food service workers, the housekeeping staff, the engineering department, the valet attendants or the imaging techs.

We are now Providence. All of Kadlec employees are now Providence employees. We will all see changes. This is how the real world works. However, we get to choose how we handle those changes.

I guess the old saying is true; you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. It’s gone, so can we move on?
