Congratulations to Patrick McGuire and Gene Huffman on their re-election Dec. 8 to the Kennewick Irrigation District board of directors. Having 85 percent of the 1,598 votes that were cast is impressive.
The KID, which has 22,885 parcels on 20,201 irrigated acres, has a potential base of more than 47,000 votes. McGuire and Huffman succeeded in garnering 2.8 percent of those votes. The very poor voter turnout was expected because KID did as little as possible to notify its more than 22,000 ratepayers about the election. But at least there was an election.
Thanks to all of you who cast the 247 votes for myself and Bill McKay.
