Letter: Uneasy about politicians, media banging the war drums
I am beginning to be uneasy about all the “banging of the war drums” talk from both politicians and teleprompter readers across the media.
Using the term “national security” appears to be the reasoning along with revenge for attacks like Paris or San Bernardino. I too have a desire for revenge on the unknown “they.” But sending boots on the ground to another far-off place like Syria or the ISIS caliphate is something I do not agree with.
It’s interesting that those who are calling for some kind of invasion of ISIS-held territory to exterminate the problem have none of their kids in uniform. Pretty easy to send someone else’s kid off to fight your perceived battle. If we can believe the media stories, we can’t even care for the returning vets we have now.
How many more body bags and crippled vets do we need to come home from some distant third-world country that I couldn’t care less about. I don’t see any national security interest for me there. I see that area as a Muslim problem best handled by other Muslim countries.
After almost 15 years of this, I am just worn out.
