Letter: Nothing was accomplished in the Paris climate talks

It is always interesting to read what folks are thinking in the Forum section of the newspaper. However, the TCH editorial board has outdone itself with the inclusion of the Seattle Times editorial “Our Nation Must Do Better” (Dec. 20).

This banal insipid piece completely states the obvious. Nothing was accomplished in Paris. The U.S. must unilaterally “disarm” itself as to energy production and use in keeping with the pointless rhetoric of the piece. Just what was accomplished by placing tons of pollutants in the atmosphere with an end result of an unenforceable agreement.

If you look at the overall direction of the Paris agreement, there were two types of governments attending. There were those governments with their hands out looking for funds in order to make their countries bigger and better polluters, and of course, there were those countries that believe in wealth redistribution by the further reduction of societal well-being by becoming third-world debtor nations.

Perhaps you could select something that has an actual message. The Seattle Times clearly states that nothing was accomplished. In this endeavor of journalism, is it not important to evaluate and provide cogent thinking as to the actions being reported?
