Letter: Housing prices are identical in Benton and Franklin counties

The front-page article about home affordability (TCH, Dec. 6) for first-time buyers conflates housing prices with income.

Looking at the Q1 (detail) and Q3 (summary) reports on realestate.washington.edu, it is clear that housing prices are identical in the two counties.

The only difference between Benton and Franklin County housing affordability figures is the median family income, which is used to estimate the first-time buyer’s ability to afford a mortgage, and is lower in Franklin County.
