Letter: Thanks to those who honor veterans

On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, my better half and I were having a free lunch at Applebee’s in Pasco. A young mother with an infant and a 5-year-old boy came in for lunch.

I was wearing a veteran’s cap. The little boy drew a picture on a piece of tablet paper, colored it and brought it to our table and presented it to me and thanked me for my service. I folded it and put it in my pocket to keep. As we left, we stopped at their table and thanked him again and thanked the mother for the way she is educating her children.

The next day we went shopping and stopped for lunch at the Sage Port Grill. The waitress had delivered our lunch and left. She later returned and said our lunch had been paid for by another couple and had no idea who they were.

We really appreciate the generosity of all who honor the service of veterans.

Jack Davis, Benton City.
