Letter: Thanks to community for food drive for needy families

Northwest Harvest, NBC Right Now, the Tri-Cities Food Bank, local businesses and dozens and dozens of volunteers spent Dec. 4 collecting food and donations at the Kennewick Safeway and the Richland Albertsons on Lee Boulevard.

These tireless community supporters were on hand most of the day accepting the community’s unselfish giving to provide food for needy families in the Tri-Cities. Similar organizations and volunteers did likewise in Yakima. Their efforts generated enough cash and food to provide almost 190,000 meals to hungry families in the Tri-Cities and Yakima areas.

This is the Christmas season at its best! All Safeway and Albertsons stores in the area will be selling $10 hunger bags through December, so there’s still time to contribute. On behalf of those friends and neighbors in the Tri-Cities and Yakima areas in need of our help, thank you for what you have done and what we know you’ll continue to do.

V.J. Meadows, President, Tri-Cities Food Bank board of directors
