Letter: Social media is encouraging hatred in our society
Social media is becoming increasingly popular among people in our society as more and more people flock to these websites in order to express their feelings or update people on how they feel about colored coffee cups. However, social media is not being used at all how it was originally intended to be used.
This year, we have seen cops taking on aggressive children in the classroom, women videotaping at baseball games, and store clerks yelling at customers. These are all things that have been shared by thousands of people on social media in an attempt to bring people caught doing these things to justice.
This is not at all what social media should be used for. Instead of people staying in touch with friends and family, they are using these Internet platforms to encourage others to say many awful things to people and threaten their livelihood. Social media is encouraging hatred in our society, and that is something that needs to change.
