Letter: The problem with gun control arguments
Recently, gun control has been a topic on the minds of most Americans. With every shooting, more passionate cries for change can be heard throughout the U.S.
The pro-gun control group says that if guns either cannot be obtained or are harder to get, then crimes and shootings would be less. The anti-gun control group says that unarmed citizens will be victimized easily compared to armed law-abiding citizens who can protect themselves. The problem is that both parties advocating for change in the gun control arena are extremists. One side desires to completely cut out citizens owning guns, and the other side wants to arm the public to the teeth.
Gun control is an emotional issue to many people. It involves fear and passion. It doesn’t help that only the most extreme and passionate voices are heard. The middle-ground people would like sane law-abiding citizens to be able to obtain guns legally in order to defend themselves, to make it so crazy people cannot get guns.
With only the extreme sides being major ballplayers on the field of politics, most people just won’t vote. We need moderate positions and compromise.
