Letter: We’ve known for decades that Social Security would never fully fund retirement
Why did the Herald publish an article by the Washington Post (Nov. 8) with the main objective being sensationalism, disinformation, and advancement of the career of another talking head?
I am from the Silent Generation — the one after the Greatest Generation and before the Baby Boomers.
The author quotes Marco Rubio of Florida, who is correct in what the problem is. Everyone has known for decades that Social Security would never ever fully fund retirement. That’s why the 401k system was created to help non-federal workers have a better retirement option.
Most of us took advantage of this and extra saving for our retirement which we controlled, not the government. Anyone knows that those who contribute to Social Security and only Social Security can’t survive on it for retirement.
They also know that Social Security and Medicare benefits have been spread to non-contributors.
The vile depiction of boomers is correct if you’re talking about the boomers who spent their entire lives in politics and high political positions creating our federal spending mess and now say they will fix everything if we just make them president.
Just take a moment to think who they are.
