Letter: Holidays are becoming more about ourselves and our desires
As we are quickly approaching the holidays, kids are making lists, parents are online making their plans for Black Friday, and stores are sending out endless advertisements for the best deals of the season.
But in the chaos of all this holiday fun, we are focusing less on others, and more on ourselves. On Thanksgiving, instead of remembering everything we have, we are in lines by six o’clock that evening to get the best deals for Christmas.
The holidays are becoming more about ourselves as individuals and our desires, rather than giving to those around us and showing gratitude for what we already have.
It is true, getting the best deals for the holiday can be exciting, but giving to those who really need it can cause more joy than saving $50 on the new iPhone 6 ever could.
