Letter: Baby boomers were born at a great time and made the most of it

I've been a Tri-Citian all my life, born at Lady of Lourdes in 1951. So yes I’m a boomer, but I’ll be darned if I’m going to feel guilt and shame like Mr. Tankersley of the Washington Post (TCH, Nov. 8) says I should. Our generation has offered more than this guy seems to realize.

Raised in west Pasco, we were six kids in a two-bedroom house. After one year of college I learned a trade and started my own business. Having as many as 15 employees, I paid not only my Social Security taxes at a higher rate but matched theirs. And for every part or labor hour I sold, the state was getting their 8.6 percent.

So Mr. Generation Xer, those who camp out in line to get the newest phone or tech gadgets, cut us some slack. We were born at a great time and have made the most of it.
