Letter: Proper discipline of children would reduce bullying

I believe bullying has become epidemic because the politically correct have conspired to deny parents and schools the right and responsibility to properly discipline this country's children. Discipline by timeouts sitting in a corner do not always cut it. Corporal punishment is sometimes needed and does work.

Love and forgiveness still apply. It only takes a few complainers about their “Johnnie” being wrongly “beaten” and an air-headed bureaucrat to get a good law thrown out or a cream puff law installed that denies people the right to discipline their children.

I am not talking about brutality. I am talking about reality. I believe because children don’t get discipline that is physical at times, it isn’t strong enough to stick for a lifetime. Manners, regard for others and respect for ones self are greatly affected by proper discipline.

This country gave up that responsibility a long time ago. I believe that is why we have so much violence and killings today — no regard for others taught by proper discipline at an early age. Suicide is also epidemic because people and schools gave up the responsibility to properly guide their children. They no longer have God and Jesus to look up to.
