Letter: Don’t blame boomers for pillaging America’s economy
Thank you for printing your front-page article Nov. 8 on how the “terrible” baby boomers have pillaged America’s economy. It provides one more example of how ignorant the liberal news media is.
Incapable of thinking more than three causes deep, the writer lays blame for the Social Security funding issues on the boomers instead of those who manage the Social Security trust fund and Congress. Mr. Tankersley also makes the ridiculous claim that “the boomers took control of Washington at the turn of the millennium and used it to rack up a lot of federal debt,” when in fact the liberals in Congress are responsible for this mismanagement, not the boomers.
Because of the values they grew up with, most boomers understand that you cannot spend more than you have, while those who actually run Washington, D.C. are blind to this wisdom. Funding of the Social Security trust is not a new problem and neither is the fact that our congressmen continually fail to address it.
To blame the boomers is simply misguided liberal thinking — and very insulting to those of us who are capable of clear and rational thought.
