Letter: Kadlec nurses desire to give the best care they can

Fighting for their benefits, including paid time off and lunch breaks, Kadlec nurses banded together recently to stand up for a cause.

But this fight is fueled by things deeper than the money. It’s fueled by the desire to give the best care they can, to those they serve, but also to their families. What ifs turn into reality and medical mishaps happen, and at the rate this is going Kadlec nurses won’t be able to separate their paid time off from the time off taken to deal with the what ifs of life.

To some, this may not be a big ordeal. But it is. It’s silly to expect someone to give 100 percent of themselves when caring for complete strangers when in fact they cannot take the time off they need to give 100 percent of themselves to taking care of the people they care most about. And that’s where the problem lies.

So Kadlec RNs, you’re supported, not only in your fight to make your workplace the most effective it can be, but in your fight for the care of the people you love.
