Letter: Why bother with posted speed limits in Kennewick?

I finally actually passed another automobile on Highway 240 the other day between Kennewick and the Edison overpass. I was shocked that there was another person driving at or below the speed limit.

Where I live, the access street is posted 25 mph and I drive 25 mph, certainly irritating those drivers behind me who ride my bumper just to show their angst at having to obey the law for even a short time.

On Columbia Center Boulevard the 35 mph speed limit apparently doesn’t exist for every other driver, because again I am the only one at that speed, and other drivers weave in and out to gain a place in the race. We usually end up at the same red light.

The only other vehicles I pass occasionally are large trucks.

Law enforcement certainly cannot be everywhere, but is the acceptable limit 5 mph over, 10 mph over or just reckless abandon?

Driving on Interstate 82 at the limit of 70 mph and being passed like I’m standing still should be a problem. When it drops to 60 mph approaching 20th Avenue. and I’m the only one slowing, where is the enforcement?
