Letter: Downward spiral taking Lord’s name in vain on TV

Lately we’ve noticed an increase in the use of Christ, Jesus Christ and God Damn on TV stations not noted for these types of words. The F-bomb is still regulated, but taking the Lord’s name in vain is evidently OK.

The Third Commandment, however, teaches this is definitely not OK. Further, the Bible says He (God) will not hold anyone blameless who takes His name in vain and that His name is so powerful that one day, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

If you don’t agree, please don’t take issue with me; take it up with the author. We are free moral agents to believe as we wish, but what we believe doesn’t make it any less true. There is an old saying, “God said it, I believe it, that settles it,” but that’s not good theology. It should say, “God said, that settles it, whether I believe it or not.”

For decades people have expressed excitement or frustration without hurling filthy or holy words and been perfectly understood. Is there no end to our moral spiral downward?
