Letter: Miss Tri-Cities Outstanding Teen unfairly taken from deserving young woman

I am extremely disappointed to see that a crown and scholarship was stripped from a deserving young woman who did no wrong the same way as one who committed a crime.

We were at the Miss Tri-Cities Outstanding Teen pageant the night Sarah Carlson won and she deserved every bit of the crown AND the scholarship money.

She would have represented our area very well! She has the confidence, poise, and talent required to represent Tri-Cities, even though she is unable to compete in the national competition next summer. She was the correct age to participate in this particular pageant and she won fair and square. Let the runner up compete in the nationals, but do not strip a deserving young woman of her scholarship!

I find it difficult to support a “scholarship program” that does not own up to its own mistakes and allow an innocent young woman to suffer for it.
