Letter: Schools and colleges should not be gun-free zones

Let’s see, is the Capitol of the United States where Congress meets a gun-free zone? No, it is heavily armed. How about the White House? Is it gun free? No, it is so well-armed that it could shoot down an armed attack helicopter. How about the Capitol in Olympia, where our local legislators meet? Gun free? Hardly.

Armed security everywhere. And yet the people who run our schools and colleges make them gun free.

There are more than 350 million guns in this country, and the Second Amendment to the Constitution gives citizens the right to be armed. A certain percentage of the people in the country have mental problems. In a cause-and-effect universe, that means we will have attempted mass shootings. When was last time we had a mass shooting in any capitol building? Does not happen. Why? Because of good guys with guns.

The people responsible for setting up these gun-free zones should be held liable when a mass shooting happens. They should be sued for everything they own and put in prison.
