Letter: Questions about transfer of Hanford land
The recent conveyance of 1,641 acres of remediated Hanford land from DOE to the public represents good progress that is long overdue.
Two lingering questions are why did it take so long and why was the federal legislation initiated by Doc Hastings necessary to implement the conveyance?
Those individuals close enough to the events of the past few months leading up to the conveyance now have a better understanding of why Hanford cleanup under the direction of the Richland operations office is some 20 years behind schedule and billions of dollars overspent.
