Letter: Goodwill employees want to improve work environment

As workers at Goodwill we appreciate the recognition that the media has given to the campaign for Goodwill workers to organize a union. There are, however, a few things we’d like to clear up about what has been printed in the Herald and what has appeared on social media regarding our efforts, the truck drivers and warehouse workers at Goodwill.

We love our jobs and we support the mission and values of Goodwill. We just want to be able to improve our work environment and have more of a say in how that gets done.

Currently rank-and-file workers at Goodwill have no access to any kind of employer-sponsored retirement plan. The tagline on some of our trailers says “When you have a job life works!” We say when you have a good job with good pay and good benefits life really works!

We are really proud of what we’re building here. Sometimes workers like us are invisible. We appreciate the families we serve and the community that supports us. We hope they’ll support us as we take this opportunity to help improve the quality of Goodwill and our livelihoods.
