Letter: Rule of law trumps personal opinions and beliefs?
So it’s settled, then. The rule of law trumps our personal opinions and beliefs. Who knew that florists and clerks could inspire liberals nationwide to abandon civil disobedience as an expression of moral outrage?
It’s an admirable sacrifice, since it means that the days of college sit-ins and burning draft cards are forever behind us. Now that ax-grinding will take a backseat to law and order, we can expect to see some big changes.
No more protests involving trespassing, blocked traffic, or destruction of property. No more “sanctuary” cities or illegal union strikes. No more “activists” sabotaging logging equipment or assaulting people wearing fur. No more shouting “fire!” in crowded theaters while pretending that inciting violence against police officers is protected speech.
Obeying the law means that we don’t get to pick and choose which individuals or groups will suffer the collateral damage from our pet causes, and I salute liberals for ensuring that this never happens again on American soil.
No longer will they consider their activism too important to be hindered by something silly like the Constitution. Despite their zeal in transforming this country into a progressive utopia, they know that they must behave themselves. It’s the law.
