Letter: Public safety tax money can’t be used for other purposes
It was so very expected that when Chief Ken Hohenberg reported to the Kennewick City Council that the police department has a temporary funding surplus due to hiring issues for new officers, Councilman John Trumbo asked if the surplus could be used for other purposes.
Where in the world has this man been? Doesn’t he know that the money is reserved for public safety needs? It can’t be used for other purposes!
The bottom line is that our City Council has never heard of a tax that they would not apply to the city residences. I am surprised that they don’t have a burial tax — oops, there may be one in place now.
Chief, you should keep a close watch on those funds or they may start disappearing.
