Phil Pinard, manager of Richland’s Parks and Facilities Division, is to be commended for once again placing recycling bins at Badger Mountain Trailhead Park. Previous recycling bins were removed after being continually contaminated with trash. In addition, trash bins had been filled with plastic bottles and cans.
For the current effort to succeed, people need to think then toss. The new blue bins are located alongside the park restrooms. The bins are convenient and labeled to facilitate awareness. Going a step further, hikers might consider reusable bottles. Hopefully, recycling and reusing will become as natural as the shrub-steppe landscape of the Badger Mountain Centennial Preserve.
