Letter: Bible does not teach discrimination
John Fisher's (July 8) letter criticizes the Bible and ridicules Christians for reading it. But there are some facts he should know. The Bible does not teach discrimination but teaches that marriage is between a man and woman.
The Bible has proven to be historically and geographically correct by scholars. Earlier writings confirm the accuracy of the Bible more than any other books of antiquity in history. 1st century non-Christian historians repeated many of the Biblical accounts. The reliability of the Bible has also been proven by archaeology. Sixty prophecies of Jesus Christ in Old Testament were fulfilled in the New Testament. Many of our greatest scientists were Christians (Galileo, Pascal, Newton).
Having read the Koran, a third of it is judgmental which the ISIS is following. The Westboro Church is a cult which is following its leader, not the Bible.
The Bible forbids kidnapping and selling humans as slaves. It was allowed as a servitude for people to pay off debt and thievery.
Christians serve all over the world feeding, schooling, helping the poor in response to what the Bible teaches. The Bible is in demand in other countries because of the hope it offers.
