Letter: Sacajawea Park is in very bad shape
Recently I planned a fun family gathering at what I thought was the most beautiful park in the Tri-City area.
Over the years my husband and I have biked every mile of the Heritage Trail that encompasses the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers.
One of my favorite bike rides is riding to the historic Sacajawea Park, where we would picnic and take in the majestic confluence of the Columbia and Snake rivers. The park takes you from one kiosk to another explaining that Lewis and Clark stopped several days at this site. They were enamored by the confluence and the Indians that lived within its locale.
Excited, I took my out-of-town visitors to Sacajawea Park and was shocked at the park, that now looks horrible. The grass and trees are very dry and unattended. The swimming area was not suitable to swim.
We bought a Discover parking placard with the idea in mind that these state parks would stay alive and be well cared for over the years. Very sad to see this park in such bad shape.
