Letter: Arlene’s Flowers clearly broke the law

I cannot understand the Pasco and Kennewick city councils trying to circumvent what is clearly a case of a business owner (Arlene’s Flowers) breaking the law.

It does not matter what Barronelle Stutzman’s religious views are — they do not give her the right to discriminate. There was a time that those same “religious” views would have been used for denying service to a racially mixed couple.

Would the city councils be so ready to jump on the bandwagon of her “religious rights” had she refused service to a couple of different race? How about refusing service to an obese couple? After all, her religion probably lists gluttony as a sin.

Stutzman has no right to force her rigid views on those who do not share those views. Perhaps she should read Luke 7:36 - 50, a story about Jesus and a prostitute. Maybe she would then try to be more like Jesus instead of a judgmental religious zealot.
