Letter: Sylvester Street a racetrack

Race track needed? No, we have one in Pasco; it is called Sylvester Street from Road 28 to Road 60.

The posted signs say 35 mph but that seems to be the new 60. It is not unusual to see or hear car owners racing or hurrying to appointments going far above the speed limit day and night. Do large freight trucks use Sylvester to avoid stop lights on Court Street?

It was a pleasure a few years ago to be able to walk, bike or jog on Sylvester without putting your life in jeopardy. Students could ride their bikes to nearby schools, Wade Park or fishing in Lake Wallula but, now, safety is an issue crossing Sylvester.

Police with a radar gun stationed a few times a week would, undoubtedly, discourage speeding. Could solutions to solve this dangerous problem be reducing Sylvester to three lanes with the middle being a turning lane similar to Sandifur, or a couple of roundabouts? Sylvester is a mishmash of four lanes and two lanes from Road 28 to Road 60. Homeowners on Sylvester deserve better.
