Tri-City Herald letters to the editor discuss the traditional GOP and Biden’s failings
Are you missing traditional GOP?
Perhaps you’re among those Republican voters who’ve been waiting for the extremists to fade from control of the party, and it pains you to see that the opposite is happening. Fealty to a single bullying leader and the rabid followers who support him/her. Perhaps you can’t help but ask yourselves, “Can America again afford to cede power to today’s iteration of the Republican party?”
Perhaps this year you can consider voting Democrat. In Washington State’s Fourth Congressional District, we have a well-qualified, moderate candidate. His name is Doug White. He’s both a farmer and a restaurateur. If you look at his website (www.dougwhite4congress.us), you’ll find these listed priorities: Water, immigration, infrastructure, community safety, healthcare, housing and the economy. Areas of concern for every resident of the district.
Doug White does not have to pledge allegiance to a failed businessman with reprehensible morals. He’s focused on issues that matter for all of us now as well as our children and grandchildren.
Perhaps you miss the traditional Republican Party, Interstate highways, good relations with union workers. I certainly do. Maybe the only way we can get it back is for this current version to lose and reorganize.

Biden is failing, reader contends
One day recently I asked my local liberal friends what positive things they could say about Joe Biden. They couldn’t come up with a single item but were miffed at the question. After one year, Biden’s presidency is clearly broken beyond repair. The only thing he can point to is a low unemployment rate. But this is due to Biden’s failure to “defeat COVID” as he promised, requiring large groups of parents to stay home with their kids. Biden failed to produce large-scale testing of COVID as promised, something he severely criticized Trump for. To make matters worse, Biden is now dispensing COVID medical treatment based on race (tinyurl.com/f4yc9wwj). Biden continues to promote extraordinary government spending that will only exacerbate the already high inflation rate, something that hurts poor people the worst. Finally, Biden has adopted blatantly lawless policies, from immigration to vaccine mandates, challenging the courts to stop him. It is no wonder that Biden’s poll numbers have cratered, even given a very accommodating liberal press. Biden can take some comfort in the fact that Kamala’s poll numbers are even worse. Hope is coming with the November elections, which will undoubtedly return control of Congress to the Republicans.

Editor’s note: A careful reading of the CDC guidance says treatments should be administered taking risk factors into account. Among the factors cited are race and ethnicity, which is what Mr. Seim’s Focus News source chose to emphasize. After a list of 11 other health factors, including age, obesity, pregnancy, chronic kidney disease, diabetes and several more, a subsequent paragraph says, “Other medical conditions or factors (for example, race or ethnicity) ….”
