Stop the hate, Kadlec is great and other Tri-City Herald letters to the editor
Malice can’t be solution to our ills
A politically-polarizing actor was recently involved in a gun accident that resulted in the death of one of his film crew and seriously injured a second. Those closest to the injured will forever bear their wounds; the actor will never forget his most infamous role.
Talking heads can never dig up enough dirt on their enemies, after all, it’s a highly lucrative mining operation; soon enough, their minions began to assault the actor in the press, his fateful shot being just one theme of their taunts.
Hatred is a dangerous drug, and some people just love to hate, intoxicated with glee when personal tragedy befalls someone who holds a contrary viewpoint or whose life does not fit into their own box of values.
Whatever our individual creeds, we need to stop feeding this ugly addiction by shunning the snarky “news” trolls, politicians, social media and conversations that promote societal conflict, division and animosity; they are pulling us down, and poisoning any joy in this God-given life. No one need stick their head in the sand, there are many thorny issues facing our society today, but malice will not lead to any solutions.

Newhouse vote was inexcusable
Recently Congressman Dan Newhouse in a weekly newsletter to the Fourth District, talked about how important our Constitution and democracy were and that he will always stand up for them. I believe he indicated that the Democrats were undermining them in his newsletter.
The hypocrisy from him is inexcusable after his recent vote not to charge (Steve) Bannon with contempt for willfully ignoring a subpeona from the January 6th Commission. I do disagree on many of his policies he supports, and I am okay with presenting him my views. While I have always thought he was an honorable man, he and the rest of the Republican Party in Washington, D.C., are cowards and they are destroying our Constitution and democracy.
I am severely disappointed in Mr. Newhouse and his colleagues who continue to allow one person to hold such control over each of them and the Republican Party. This egregious search for power certainly describes his party as you try to destroy our country and our democracy.

Kadlec ER great in an emergency
On Oct. 22 I rushed my wife to Kadlec Hospital emergency room with severe chest pain. Despite a very crowded ER, a hospital volunteer in a blue vest rushed to get a wheelchair and assist us.
Many smaller hospitals have not been able to help all arrivals in critical need — due to a flood of anti-vaccine (and now sick) individuals. Imagine for a moment being fully vaccinated only to die of a heart attack or stroke because science-denying individuals overwhelmed a limited staff.
The decision to ignore world-wide medical and scientific studies over crazy conspiracy theories has cost many people their lives. Educate yourself — from trusted sources (CDC, WebMD, NPR, PBS, etc.). Following Fox “news,” “Newsmax,” etc. — or a science-denying politician is not a smart decision. Your life or someone you love may depend on it.
Thanks to the expertise of all the Kadlec professionals on staff that day, my wife survived, and I will be forever grateful. These people are the heroes of our community and they need to be recognized as such. I am sure they have all been under tremendous stress since the start of this pandemic, and yet we were treated with the utmost respect and care.

Tri-Cities elected Trump sycophants
The victorious candidates in the reactionary-dominated school boards elections, like Gabe Galbraith, Semi Byrd and Audra Byrd, scare the hell out of me and should never have been put in charge of anything education-related.
Just look at their personal Facebook presence and comments. There is no one more anti-education, and more ... (like) Trump sycophants than these new school board members.
