Tri-City Herald letters supporting Jane Hagarty for the Port of Benton Commission
Hagarty his pick for Benton board
I first met Jane Hagarty after moving to Prosser in 1989. She was a businesswoman who owned the only shoe store in town. Over the years, there have been opportunities to work with her on different committees and in numerous organizations. In these associations, Jane has shown active leadership. She is a champion of economic development for Benton County and strongly supports the development of local business. Jane has also been endorsed by the Tri-City Republican Club and the Tri-City Realtors Association.
Jane is a woman of character and strength. I know her to be thoughtful in her decision making and honest in her approach to any decision or commitment. During her time on the Port of Benton Commission, she has developed a deep knowledge of the needs in Benton County and is completely committed to addressing those needs.
As president of the Port of Benton board, Jane is dedicated to its mission and support of our region. My vote is to retain Jane Hagarty as Benton County Port commissioner.

Hagarty’s values benefit port district
I write on behalf of Jane Hagarty current commissioner of the Port of Benton. Jane holds and practices all leadership attributes critical to public service. First and foremost, Jane is honest. Jane’s past and present work promoting public and private enterprise is a reflection of her personal and public life. Said values can best be described in the Rotary Four Point Test:
▪ Is it the TRUTH?
▪ Is it FAIR to all concerned?
▪ Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
▪ Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Jane has applied these values while executing outstanding Port of Benton business partnerships. Benton County’s civic and business environment has prospered under Jane’s proven leadership. I urge voters to join me in retaining Commissioner Jane Hagarty, Port of Benton.

Her study makes Hagarty her pick
Recently I have been reading the minutes of the Port of Benton, joining the meetings and learning of its impact to our community. I wanted to deepen my understanding of the port’s purpose, how they came to have the assets they do, and future plans. Our seasoned team of cohesive port commissioners, executive director, and port staff built a plan that is forward thinking to bring new industry, retain jobs and grow the economy. It’s exciting to see the improvements planned for Prosser and Richland airports funded by the FAA grant and more.
As it’s an election year, I wanted to learn more about the incumbent candidate Jane Hagarty. She graciously agreed to meet and shared her passion for the port and its constituents. After discussing various upcoming projects, its challenges and successes, I walked away with a clearer picture of the port’s importance to our economic development. Navigating the pandemic was a challenge for all, and the port needs seasoned leadership with a clear vision of the future. Jane is clearly knowledgeable and passionate. This depth of knowledge and passion is just what our ort needs to move us forward.
I am casting my vote for Jane. Won’t you please join me?
Christy Rasmussen, Richland

Hagarty helped save Crow Butte
As we sit by the fire tonight at our all-time happy place, Crow Butte Park, we are reminded again how grateful we are to the Port of Benton and Jane Hagarty for recognizing the value of this beautiful location in southwest Benton County. Several years ago, the park was ready to close due to poor management and lack of interest by a private contractor. Jane Hagarty and the other port commissioners recognized the importance of the park to this area and stepped in to save this gem on the Columbia River. Jane’ leadership ensured that a strategic plan was developed and adhered to to return the Crow Butte Park to an area that was well used and loved by many.
Jane Hagarty has that unique insight and longtime experience to think creatively. We are grateful that Jane and the other commissioners recognized the importance of the park and found a way to save it.
Please join us in voting to return Jane Hagarty to the Port of Benton Commission.
