Letters: Vote McKinley, Biden speech and a letter response | Sept. 4

Newhouse, Trump not doing their job

In a couple of months voters will have a chance to put an end to the punishment (President) Trump and (Rep. Dan) Newhouse have been inflicting on Washington State.

Trump has done everything in his power to punish “blue” states like Washington, and Newhouse has supported him every step of the way. Trump even proposed massive cuts to Hanford that would have devastated our economy. Thankfully, House Democrats killed Trump’s proposal.

And now Trump and Newhouse are trying to wreck the U.S. Postal Service so that votes by mail can’t be counted. Newhouse has done nothing for the Fourth District; which is why we never got our share of coronavirus aid, PPEs, or tests.

So the next time you see a yard sign for Trump or Newhouse, just remember these are the people who want the federal government to hurt Washington. These are people who think supporting Trump is more important than the welfare of our community. These are people who don’t care if the country goes into a depression. In other words, these are the people who got us into this mess.

We need a “People First” Democrat to represent us, vote for Doug McKinley.

Nothing was done ‘exactly right’

In an Aug. 21 Letter to the Editor, Herb Ayers from Pasco had the audacity to claim that our current president “did it all exactly right” regarding the COVID-19 virus. His final sentence was, “Our emotions are important, but so are facts.” That is the only part of his letter with which I agree. His first point was that people from China were stopped from entering this country at the beginning of the virus.

Fact: On Jan. 5, the WHO published a preliminary report and U.S. national security officials were warning the president of the global danger posed by the virus in daily intelligence briefings.

As we have all learned, the president is not usually interested in daily intelligence briefings. He consistently played down the pandemic and applauded China’s handling of the virus before taking action to protect the U.S. in the form of a limited travel ban from China on Jan. 31.

So from the very beginning of this deadly and emotional trauma, he didn’t do what was “exactly right.” The president has ignored facts and dwelt in the land of wishful thinking and denial. He has been a disgraceful leader and is known for his lies and blaming others.

Disappointed with Biden’s speech

I’m disappointed with Joe Biden’s talk at the convention. The problem is that it wasn’t Joe but something a teleprompter wrote and Joe read off the teleprompter. Joe was trying to speak as if he truly represented the center political party.

We all know that the entire effort of their party is to damage, misrepresent the Republican party and get many fooled into thinking the Republicans haven’t served the country well. This is especially true of Nancy (Pelosi) who mixes fiction and facts when she talks to the public. She has often withheld congressional action if it was beneficial to the Republicans.

I used to live on a farm. Chickens sometimes picked on one chicken trying to eliminate the one through getting a large number of chickens attacking. We believed they did this due to the collective small brains of the chickens.
