Letter: Amusing, foolish but not surprising
It's difficult to understand why so many media outlets, not including Fox, of course, are giving Trump credit for extraordinary leadership that produced our current robust economy. However, if you examine any of the common parameters that portray the economic health of this nation, there is no doubt that recovery from the Bush/Greenspan economic collapse in 2008 started even before President Obama's inauguration and continued through Obama/Yellen's terms.
It should be noted that many Republicans opposed the stimuli, like bailouts of publicly-held corporations, initiated by Bush and continued by Obama/Yellen, advocating instead austerity measures like the ones that delayed Europe's recovery for about 7 years. It should also be noted that the healthy economy handed over to Trump needed a stimulative tax cut like a moose needs a hat rack. Useful stimulus could have been achieved by initiating essential infrastructure programs, targeted initially to specific depressed areas, but Trump chose instead to borrow $1.5T from our children to hand out to corporations and the wealthiest Americans.
It's amusing that Republicans complained about deficits and debt when they were used properly to achieve economic recovery, but they are silent now when they are used improperly to stimulate an already-healthy economy. Amusing and foolish, but not surprising.
