Letter: A thanks for those overlooked

All too often the good works of individuals or groups go unnoticed. I certainly had no knowledge of the benevolent contributions the 3 Rivers Corvette Club makes to this community.

As a Port of Kennewick Commissioner, I had the honor of riding in Bernie Beldin’s beautiful 2017 Corvette in Saturday’s Fair Parade. While riding with Bernie, I was able to learn a great deal about the club and their unselfish contributions to this community.

I learned they provide cars and drivers for local high school homecoming events, the mall’s Christmas parade, veteran parades and more. Bernie shared the fundraising events they hold annually benefiting organizations such as Meals on Wheels, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Bikes for Tikes, Make a Wish Foundation and others.

I feel grateful and blessed to have had the privilege of spending a Saturday morning with Bernie learning how club members use their cars to make our community a better place. Their example provides us an opportunity to think beyond the obvious considering ways we can use what we have to improve the quality of life we enjoy in our community.

Just think of the possibilities!

Skip Novakovich, LTC, USA, (Ret), Commissioner, Port of Kennewick
