Letter: A cow is a cow, but this was bull

People wonder what fake news is. Well, in the Aug. 20 addition of the Tri-City Herald, page 3A there was an article that stated: “WSU faces animal rights complaints over experiments.” In the first paragraph it says: “... issues related to the deaths of three bats and the castration of two cows.”

Now being older and a old farm boy, I immediately chuckled and wondered how that happened. Then it dawned on me that someone did not do “due diligence” in providing the proper research on this article. I believe that when you talk in general about “castration” you are talking about “boy” cows, commonly known as “bulls,” and making them steers. Cows are mommies!

Now you can sterilize cows I am sure, but it would not be the same as “castration”. The editorial staff needs to check facts or it becomes “fake news”... (Just call a local farmer, there are plenty in Tri-Cities and surrounding areas, and ask what the difference may be).
