Letter: Statistically, ‘twas a slippery thing

In a town with a national laboratory and high-tech industries, it is embarrassing to see the statistics reported in last Saturday’s lead story. It was reported that the overdose deaths reported between 2012 and 2016 in Franklin County were almost triple the number reported between 2008 and 2010. Of course, a four-year time period will have more than a two-year time period. My dad told me, “Figures don’t lie, but liars figure.” The schools are failing us.
