Letter: Pasco the perfect setting for state chess
On April 21, thousands of out-of-towners will descend on TRAC. As of Jan. 22, only 14 rooms are left in sponsoring hotels. RV parking is in demand. They will eat here. They may go wine tasting. The Washington State Elementary Chess Championships are coming to town. Why here?
The last two years, Pasco schools accounted for 12 percent of all the participants at the Tacoma Dome state chess championships.
Pasco schools inspire children as young as kindergarten to play chess in large numbers. Chess teaches everything from critical thinking to patience, and it’s a lifelong skill.
Pasco School District’s levy vote is coming up on Valentine’s Day. Programs that teach, like chess, get support from the levy. Please invest in our young people. Take the time. Vote yes.
