Letter: A year later, Women’s March just as relevant
The first anniversary of the largest collective protest in U.S. history is almost here – the Women’s March, which took place on Jan. 21, 2017, in Washington D.C. and in cities across the country. A year later we will march again. Many people want to know: why? The reasons are as diverse as the lives and stories of the people who participate. I can offer only my perspective on why I march in solidarity with others.
I march to celebrate the power women have to create positive change in our country. I march to stand with the call that all women be treated with dignity and ensured equality. I march to begin a conversation with others: How can we channel positive energy into concrete actions that contribute to the vitality of our democracy and the pursuit of justice?
Join us and add your story to that conversation. As women and men, as fellow human beings, let’s move our country forward together. We don’t have to be the same; we have to believe that our differences can help create a greater good. Sunday, Jan. 21, from 12-2 p.m. in John Dam Plaza. Action After-Party 2-4 p.m. at 723 The Parkway.
