Letter: Media should give military its due

This newspaper ran an article in last Sunday’s paper entitled “Iraq Says Its War Against Islamic State has Ended” (Dec. 10).

The article went on to say that Iraq’s “war on the Islamic state is over after more that three years of combat operations drove the extremists from all the territory they once held.

“Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced Iraqi forces were in full control of the country’s border with Syria . . . and his spokesman said the development marked the end of the military fight against the Islamic State.”

This is huge news! The American military has been fighting alongside the Iraqi forces for years, and constantly training them to take back their country from Al Qaeda.

They have now succeeded!

So my question is this: Why was this article of such import and magnitude buried back on Page 10A with just four inches of ink when it should have been front page?

When will the media finally give full credit and comment to our incredible military forces and their incredible results? When?
