Letter: Putting party loyalty ahead of nation’s needs

Recent letters have been critical of Rep. Dan Newhouse’s support for the Republican tax plan.

Do they misunderstand? This is the greatest tax reform plan ever. According to the “dishonest media,” a few of the plan’s great provisions include:

  • Further shifts the income tax burden from high-income to moderate- and low-income individuals. (Goodie-purchased with strategic political donations?)
  • Reduces tax rates for “pass through” income, such as from real estate development/speculation. (Know any particular beneficiary?)
  • Allows tax-exempt organizations, such as houses of worship, to overtly support or oppose political candidates. (What’s wrong with politicizing religious institutions?)
  • Provides a means for political donations (bribes?) to be tax deductible and anonymous.
  • Cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. (‘Let them eat cake’ instead.)
  • Adds $1.5 trillion to the national debt. (Only ‘D’ debt is bad; ‘R’ debt is good.)

I predict Dan Newhouse will continue supporting any Republican tax plan, no matter how egregious, because party loyalty trumps (pun noted) all other considerations.
